JANUARY

While January started with a whopping chill, Inver Grove Heights Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) hired Eric Satre as new Tourism Director. The CVB mission is: To market and promote Inver Grove Heights to visitors; to maintain and stimulate the community’s economic vitality. How do we accomplish this? Think “product awareness” which we leverage with VisitIGH.com, social media and digital marketing campaigns, landing and promoting events such as Twin Cities Live, and securing group and business travel business opportunities.

FEBRUARY

Simley Athletics boasts a proud sports tradition. Some 2018-19 highlights include:

  • Dance: 1AA Jazz and Kick state qualifier
  • Football: Section 3AAAA champions and state qualifier
  • Boys Soccer: Advanced to Section 3A finals
  • Girls Tennis: Section 3AA second place finish
  • Wrestling: Class 2AA state tournament champions (pictured)

iPho2 opens in Inver Grove Heights, which is modeled after the original on University Avenue in Saint Paul. iPho2 serves a menu of Vietnamese specialties, including pho, bahn mi sandwiches, pad Thai, and more.

APRIL

While the NCAA Final Four was hosted in Minneapolis, fans stayed in Inver Grove Heights, ate at our restaurants, and a few spotted skating at VMCC wearing their team jerseys.

With the Palace Inn opening in April, Inver Grove Heights now has four hotels. Those being AmericInn Hotel & Suites, Holiday Inn Express, and Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham. Hotels in Inver Grove Heights are affordable, easily accessible, and offer cost-saving amenities.

THAT Cooking School is a unique business that opened in the Arbor Lakes area. Not just any cooking school, THAT Cooking School is ideal for classes, team-building and corporate events.

Jersey’s Bar & Grill sweeps awards at 2019 Twin Cities Burger Battle, winning for “People’s Choice” and “Critics Choice.” Jersey’s promotes themselves as a “restaurant and nightlife” as they regularly host live music and other evening events.

Mississippi Pub celebrated their 20th Birthday. Mississippi Pub is one of the few restaurants on the Mississippi River. Thanks to their unique glass-walled dining room, diners can enjoy river views year-round.

JUNE

IGH Food Truck Days is a series of marquee community events offered by the City of Inver Grove Heights. Burgers and brats, Mexican street food, egg rolls on a stick, gyros, cheese curds, and sweet treats are just a few of the tastes that await.

Heritage Village Dog Park Grand Opening was a momentous occasion for dog owners and canines alike. The dog park features off-leash small breed and all-breed areas, lighted trails, and more.

JULY

Minnesota Vikings Training Camp drew thousands of fans to the southeast metro, many who stayed in our hotels and enjoyed our restaurants. The latest addition to Vikings Headquarters is an e-sports facility and the ownership’s new e-sports team.

AUGUST

Congrats to Lillie Suburban Newspapers Readers’ Choice 2019 Award Winners: A&L Chinese, B-52 Burgers & Brew, Bierstube, Cahill Diner, Gertens, Inver Wood Golf Course, Old World Pizza, The Grove Aquatic Center, and Veterans Memorial Community Center.

Inver Grove Heights celebrated the Pine Bend Bluffs Trailhead grand opening in August. Pine Bend Bluffs is the second trailhead along on the Mississippi River Greenway in Inver Grove Heights along with Swing Bridge Trailhead.

SEPTEMBER

IGH Days is the annual volunteer-run city celebration featuring a parade, coronation, fireworks, and more. Drkula’s 32 Bowl hosted the kick-off event with food provided by Hometown Meats.

The long-awaited Inver Grove Brewery has brought a lot of excitement as the city’s first brewery. In addition to beer, they offer a full bar and a menu that includes wood-fired pizzas, burgers, and weekend brunch.

Kayak Tours + Mississippi Pub grub equals a fantastic outdoor experience package on the Mississippi River. Look for more of these expert-led tours to come to Inver Grove Heights next fall.

Twin Cities Live. Perhaps no other event impacted Inver Grove Heights in 2019 quite like TCL in 2019. The local talk show broadcasted several Inver Grove Heights venues and interviewed business owners, which culminatedwith a live broadcast at B-52s in Inver Grove Heights.

OCTOBER

Who doesn’t like Halloween? Boo Bash and Trick-or-Treating at Veteran Memorial Community Center (VMCC) is an annual favorite event.

NOVEMBER

Veterans Memorial Community Center hosted the annual State of Minnesota Veterans Day. Veterans, veterans’ families, elected officials, and community members gathered to recognize and pay tribute to active military and military veterans.

DECEMBER

Holiday in the Heights. Inver Grove Heights knows how to celebrate the holiday season; the annual tree lighting ceremony, holiday lights competition, and breakfast with Santa are all festive holiday traditions.

2019 was a fantastic year in Inver Grove Heights, and we look forward to another outstanding year in 2020!
