  1. Decorate for the season

Gardening isn’t just for spring and summer!  Gertens has a great selection of seasonal fall plants, including mums, hanging baskets, and decorative kale.  If you’d like to enjoy your outdoor space before the temperatures get really cold, consider investing in a fire pit.  Gertens also stocks Halloween lights and decor, pumpkins, and pumpkin carving tools for kids of all ages.

In addition to in-person shopping, Gertens offers many products via curbside pickup.

  1. Admire fall foliage

Find an outdoor escape in the heart of Inver Grove Heights at North Valley Park.  There’s plenty of fall color on the 58 wooded acres, and older kids can play a game of disc golf or pickleball.  If you’d like to enjoy an autumn picnic, there are picnic tables and grills available.

Combine leaf peeping with a family bike ride on the Mississippi River Regional Trail.  The paved trail is also perfect for walking and in-line skating.  Be sure to stop at Swing Bridge Park and check out the view from the walking pier that juts out 680 feet over the Mississippi River.

For a more rustic experience, visit Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area.  The 200-foot bluffs are one of the best places in the Twin Cities metro area to see the Mississippi River in its natural state, and the hiking trails offer a great opportunity to spot fall foliage and wildlife.
